Mother’s Day is just around the corner, how will you show your Mum you care?

Breakfast in bed? Sure. Flowers and chocolates? OK. A book and a massage? Lovely. But what about a pre-prepared, already organised, well thought out luncheon that all she has to do is turn up? Now you’re talking! I love a long lunch, especially a beautifully styled one; I also love the millions of little steps that go into creating such a lunch - but not everyone does. So why not take the pressure off mum? Get yourself busy and organise that celebration for her! Promise you’ll be her favourite!

A floral theme is perfect for Mothers day - all you need to do is pick your mum’s favourite bloom or even, her favourite colour and go crazy. Roses are in bloom at this time of year so I have gone with a combination of reds, peaches and pinks and displayed them in simple glasses down the centre. Flowers shouldn’t ever be a one-use item - after lunch, group your roses in bunches and give to your guests, transfer the entire collection to another area of your home in one big gorgeous vase or keep them happy and healthy throughout your home by following these simple tips.

EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR ROSES

  • Cut rose stems at an angle so they soak up more water.

  • Cutaway the excess foliage below the water line to keep the water clean

  • Dissolve 3 tablespoons of white vinegar in 250ml (1 cup) warm water. This provides the sweetness and nutrition roses need to thrive once cut.

Not every table needs to be laden with china, glassware and expensive details. For this table I chose to use paper plates & cups by meri meri, paper is a fantastic alternative when hosting parties - not only is the clean up so much easier but there are so many affordable designs to choose from enabling you to really hone in your theme. By placing them on simple white plates under subtle pink linen napkins, made the colour and design just POP and match back to the Rose centrepiece beautifully. I am a big fan of decorative paper plates, cups and party decor - you really can make them work for any occasion and celebration by thinking creatively and using your imagination.

So rather than opting for the easy way out this Mothers Day (breakfast, pj’s, candles…!) think about inviting her favourite Mums over for a little celebration or what about a table full of all the females in your family! Decorate the space and show that you care, fill it with colours and blooms she loves and I promise you it will be a Mother’s day she will not forget. And you know what - you can also grab her those Pyjamas and candles as well!
