Our 25th Wedding Anniversary
Let me share with you mine and Bruce's 25th wedding anniversary we shared last month.
It will come as no surprise to anyone that I love to celebrate happy occasions, especially a wedding anniversary. I love the idea that every year two people can enjoy a dinner, lunch or whatever it may be, reminiscing about your wedding day, what’s happened since and what coming up in the future. I think we live in a world that is all about now and that we don’t spend enough time reflecting on beautiful moments shared with the ones we love.
Sor our anniversary this year, Bruce and I were in India for work. As a surprise Bruce organised that we would spend a couple of days in Udaipur at The Lake Palace. The Lake Palace is honestly the most beautiful hotel that sits in the middle of a lake. It was built as the summer palace for the Maharaja of Udaipur and is one of the most romantic settings I have ever seen, let alone stayed in. We went there for the first time 25 years ago for my mothers 50th birthday. Every room in the hotel is incredible and different from each other; we were in a room that featured hand-painted frescoes to stain glass windows. Returning to the hotel 25-years all the memories came flooding back to me.
On the night of our anniversary, the hotel had organised as a surprise a massage for me - this kept me busy while Bruce went into event planning mode. I had no idea what he was up to, but I knew something was happening as there was way too many phone calls and knocks at the door. The suspense of not knowing what he was up to was killing me, but I love a great surprise and I knew better than to ask, "What's going on?"
At sunset a beautiful boat collected myself and Bruce and we sailed around the lake sipping our drinks and watching the locals go about their day. The sky turned the most incredible watermelon colour, and I was feeling like the luckiest girl in the world. When we arrived back at the hotel, we were escorted to a private marble terrace that was completely transformed for our anniversary. There were candles and lanterns everywhere and walkways made of rose petals and marigolds. I was totally overwhelmed that I burst out crying. Everything was beyond beautiful, and I just couldn’t believe this was for me! At the end of the walk away was a cupola that had the most beautiful table for two that overlooked the mountains - I had to pinch myself. After a couple of glasses of champagne the tears stopped, and we had the most beautiful night ever.
Since coming home, I find myself looking back on photos from that night remembering just how gorgeous it was and how lucky I am. Anniversaries are special, and whether it be a big celebration or small, don’t ever let the day slip. Create beautiful memories together.
