When To Send Out Your Invitations
Invitation etiquette is a pet peeve of mine.
Whenever I am hosting a party I enjoy posting actual invitations rather than group emails or SMS (call me old fashioned, I just the romance of sending and receiving an invitation in the letterbox). But no matter how you choose to deliver your invitations, I have a rule of thumb for the timings of when you should be sending and receiving an invitation, and it all comes down to the type of party you are having. Here's what I mean...
An Overseas Wedding
Guests should be receiving their invitations 6-8 months in advance.
A Party Where Out-Of-Towners Will Attend
Guests should be receiving their invitations 4-6 months in advance.
A Luncheon
Guests should be receiving their invitations 3-5 weeks in advance.
An Evening Event
Guests should be receiving their invitations 4 weeks in advance.
A Breakfast Event
Guests should be receiving their invitations 2-4 weeks in advance.
A Cocktail Party
Guests should be receiving their invitations 2-4 weeks in advance.
A Tea Party
Guests should be receiving their invitations 2-3 weeks in advance.
