Appreciating The Small Things
WORDS: CHYKA KEEBAUGH
Who would have thought that a year on that life is so different?
So much has changed and those carefree, busy days have been replaced by days of wearing masks, closing down our business and spending time apart from friends and family. I know that for all us in Melbourne at the moment, it feels like we are living in an ever-changing horror show and having no control over the situation makes for unsettled days.
BUT, I am a positive person, and I have to believe we will get through this, that we will pivot and thrive, that our lives will better than ever. The reason I started doing my daily joy posts on Instagram was to remind myself - and hopefully others, that little sparkles of happiness are all around us. Some days we have to look a little harder to try and find the silver lining and some days it will present itself...Just like today, I’m appreciating what good hair looks like and that the ponytail I have been wearing every day will eventually get bigger, my hair will grow longer, and I will have many styling options, see it’s the small things!!
Yesterday I went for a walk and found myself a patch of wild violets growing! It was so beautiful that I, of course, had to pick a bunch for myself to bring home and vase. The funny thing about this is I had been just writing about how as a child I use to pick the violets in my Grandma’s garden. Coincidence? I do believe in signs and to me, this was my Grandmother telling me she was with me! I walk the same walk every day and have never seen them there before. It made me smile, what’s been making you smile lately?
