Packing Tips From Me To You!

As you may have noticed from my socials - I am travelling!
It’s the first stop on my travels, and I am so excited to be here. The weather is lovely, the flowers are in bloom, and I can do one of my favourite things - set up a house for BJ and Abbi. Their move to London is so exciting, and now with two kids living overseas, I know my packing skills will be tested. But as an avid traveller, I have plenty of tips and tricks to share when it comes to packing the perfect bag for your holidays because this time around, I am packing for two climates and with that comes a little more planning. Packing for two climates can be challenging (especially when you want to bring every dress you own, just in case!), but proper planning and organisation can make it easier. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to pack your suitcase for two climates:
Check the weather: What are the weather conditions in both climates? Look for average temperatures, rain patterns, and any specific weather considerations. This information will help you determine what clothing and accessories you need.
Make a list: I love pre-travel-list-making - it makes me feel super organised and builds the excitement for travel. So, create a comprehensive packing list based on the activities you'll be doing in each climate. Include specific items like clothing, shoes, accessories, toiletries, and other essentials. Divide the list into two sections: one for the warm and another for the cold.
Choose versatile clothing: Pack items that can be easily layered or mixed and matched to suit both climates. Opt for styles that can be dressed up or down. This will help you maximise your outfit options while minimising the number of things you need to pack.
Start with essentials: Pack the items you'll need in both climates, such as underwear, socks, pyjamas, and toiletries. You need these items regardless of the weather, and they should be packed first.
Layering strategy: Layering is key when packing for two climates. Pack lightweight base layers that can be worn under clothing in the colder climate. These will provide warmth without adding bulk to your suitcase.
Consider outerwear: If you are visiting a cold climate, pack a versatile and lightweight jacket or coat that can be used to layer over your outfits. Look for options that are warm, water-resistant, and easy to pack.
Shoes and accessories: Shoes can take up a lot of space, so choose wisely. Opt for a comfortable pair of walking shoes suitable for both climates. When it comes to accessories (I'll do another post on this, don't you worry!), pack versatile items like scarves, bags, and gloves that can add warmth or style to your outfits.
Rolling or folding? When packing your clothes, you can roll or fold them, depending on personal preference - I love the roll. Rolling clothes can save space and reduce wrinkles while folding may help keep clothes neater. Experiment with both techniques to find what works best for you.
Pack in layers: Pack your suitcase in layers, placing heavier items like shoes and toiletries at the bottom. Keep your clothing layers separate by using packing cubes or plastic bags to maintain organisation and make it easier to locate items. Use packing cubes or compression bags to organise and maximise space.
Leave room for souvenirs: If you plan to bring back souvenirs or shopping finds, leave space in your suitcase to accommodate them. Consider packing an extra bag or leaving extra room in your suitcase to account for any additional items you may acquire during your trip.
Travel Pods: The Packing Life Savers!
I could not love packing pods anymore than I already do! From helping organise my suitcases to containing my carry-on items - these little cases are an absolute must for any traveller. Packing using travel pods, also known as packing cubes or organisers, offers several benefits that can help streamline your packing process and keep your suitcase well-organised. Not only do travel pods allow you to categorise and separate your belongings within your suitcase. You can assign specific pods for different types of clothing, accessories, or even different climates. This organisation makes it easier to locate items without rummaging through your entire suitcase, saving you time and reducing frustration. Optimising space in your suitcase is a must, so make sure you pick up your pods in various sizes, allowing you to pack efficiently and utilise every inch of available space. By compressing your clothes within the cubes, you can reduce bulk and fit more items in your suitcase. This is especially helpful when packing for two climates, as you may have a variety of clothing to accommodate. It is also helpful for unpacking, as you can take out the cubes and place them in drawers or shelves, keeping your belongings organised throughout your trip. Don’t just leave the pods for your clothes, though! You can use them to organise electronics, toiletries, or other travel essentials. Some cubes even come with separate compartments or built-in toiletry bags, providing further convenience.
