Now, you know I love my jewellery!
… When it comes to travel, I take extra special care in packing my pieces. From sunglasses to chunky earrings, watches to rings, everything has its place and keeping it safe is a priority. Jewellery can be delicate and easily damaged during travel. Pieces with light chains, gemstones, or intricate designs can get tangled, broken, or scratched if not properly packed. Rough handling or pressure can also cause damage to jewellery, especially if packed loosely or inappropriately. That is why I like to use specific jewellery bags that protect them and take the utmost care when choosing and packing.
When I lay out my travelling wardrobe, I keep aside a collection of pieces that will match back with different clothes. Versatile shapes, sizes and colours can be mixed and matched throughout my trip. I set up a little tray and work through each outfit with a vague idea of how I will style it - which bags work, what shoes match best and what jewellery compliments it all. Then when I am at my destination, all I have to worry about is getting ready - the decision-making has been done, and my outfit is ready!
Five top tips to ensure the safety of your jewellery …
Choose Wisely: Opt for versatile, less valuable pieces of jewellery that can be easily replaced if lost or damaged. Leave your most expensive or sentimental pieces at home.
Secure Storage: Use a jewellery travel case or a small pouch with individual compartments to store and protect your jewellery. This will help prevent tangles, scratches, and damage.
Carry-on Luggage: Keep your jewellery in your carry-on luggage rather than checked bags whenever possible. This way, you can keep it under your supervision and reduce the risk of loss or theft.
Keep It with You: Avoid placing jewellery in external pockets or easily accessible compartments of your bags. Instead, keep it close to you in a personal bag or purse during your journey.
Document Your Jewellery: Take photos or list the jewellery you are carrying, including descriptions, values, and any unique identifying marks. This documentation can be helpful for insurance purposes in case of loss, damage, or theft.
But, what about our sunglasses?
I treat sunglasses like I do my jewellery. It will come as no surprise that I pack quite a few pairs as I like them to match back to my outfits. Taking care of your glasses (especially if you wear prescription lenses) is also essential, as we need them daily. Following these packing tips, you can travel with multiple pairs of sunglasses while keeping them well-organized and protected.
So how do I travel with my collections? Well, let me tell you! If you prefer to travel light, remove the bulky cases and opt for individual protective pouches for each pair of sunglasses. These pouches take up less space and provide basic protection against scratches. Ensure that the pouches are stored safely within your luggage to prevent damage. Before packing your sunglasses, clean each pair with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove any smudges or dirt. This step ensures that your sunglasses are ready to use when you reach your destination.
Additionally, consider placing each pair in a protective pouch or microfiber cloth to prevent scratches during transport. If you have a sunglasses case designed to hold multiple pairs, it can be a convenient option for protecting and organizing your sunglasses. Place each pair inside the case, ensuring they are secured and won't shift during travel. You can buy a similar case for your sunglasses right here!
