As the season's change, so do our needs.
The heaters come back, the windows close, and we crave a little more warmth. Not just when we snuggle up on the couch at night bingeing our favourite new show, not just when we step out of bed and straight into slippers but in rooms that we don't give much thought to - rooms like our bedroom. Thanks to my bedding range with Harris Scarfe, starting a new season off with fresh sheets and a new quilt cover set is an affordable luxury that we can all indulge in this year.
Crisp white cotton jacquard with a subtle check pattern is the perfect, most versatile quilt set you can own. It matches back with every colour, every print and every texture you can adorn your bed with. Pairing it with a classic linen sheet set and valance, you can create the bed linen of your dreams!
HOT TIPS! keep those whites white
Got white sheets? Make sure all your make-up is off before you go to bed. Good for your skin and good for your bed because nothing is more annoying than having to wash off foundation, fake tan, eyeliner and eyeshadow off pillowcases!
When we sleep we lose a lot of ourselves, I know it’s not the most attractive thing to talk about but we sweat, secrete body oils, dead skin, and more which often leaves our white sheets with a yellow tinge. There is no way of avoiding this but there is a way to keep your sheets white - regular washing. Regular washing with a white enhancing booster will do the job, so get into the routine and your sheets will shine.
When washing, as tempting as it is, please avoid using bleach on your sheets! Chlorine bleach has a chemical reaction to protein stains like sweat that can make those stains appear more yellow.
Got a spill? A stain? A little bit of chocolate perhaps…? Wash it straight away. Don’t let stains linger on white sheets, soak in cold water and then wash as per the label.
Baking Soda is a godsend when it comes to laundering sheets, adding a few tablespoons of baking soda to your regular laundry soap to help remove odours. For really tough odours, soak the item overnight in a baking soda and water solution and then run them through the wash.
Use cold water unless you have really heavy stains. Hotter water tends to damage material quicker and make sure you don’t overload your machine.
If your white pillowcases are not looking white enough because of the state of your pillows simply purchase a few pillowcase protectors in white. This gives your pillows an extra boost of white if your sheets are on the sheer side.
If your laundry sink cannot accommodate soaking your quilt cover or sheets comfortably take them all down to the dry cleaner and ask them if they offer a bleaching service. Let’s try and keep our bedding in rotation for as long as possible - better for the back pocket and the environment.
