Easter Lunch In The Vegetable Garden
The pièce de résistance of my Easter celebration is, of course, the table!
I love a beautifully dressed table, and this Easter is no different. Set up in the vegetable garden of The Commons at Ormond Collective, and revolving around the colourful carrot theme, this table is simple, textural and rustic, using everyday vegetables to create a fresh and fun setting.
Outdoors in the sun is one of my most favourite places to entertain, and being surrounded by fresh greens in a vegetable garden on a sunny day is pretty damn close to perfection. Using a concrete table and simple tableware allows the centrepiece of assorted vegetables in terracotta to shine - have you ever thought about displaying your vegetables like this? You should! It’s so striking and a definite conversation starter.
By keeping my plates, cutlery and glassware simple, I let my Easter theme be the star. From the bunches of carrots that bulk out the centre of the table to the carrot table decorations made from crepe paper by Miri Miri, these creative additions to the table mean a simple plate would work best. So in comes a muted pink terracotta plate with a printed napkin to give an added boost of colour and texture - the orange and pink combination in this design by Homegoods Hardware hits the mark perfectly.
Like a table set up in the countryside, every element of this setting relates to the vegetable garden. The terracotta pots (also by Homegoods Hardware have come full circle - once used to grow the vegetables, they are now used to display them. When doing the table centre, double up your pots to create height, tapering down or 2 -3 high pots with smaller in between. The cane cosied glassware could be fashioned from a straw-stuffed scarecrow; the napkin's printed motif is reflective of a thriving vegetable patch. Of course, you have rhubarb, chard and carrots displayed like flowers to cement the rustic farmyard look. Always step back and look at your table from all angles, readjust then readjust again! When using fresh produce, be sure to keep it in the fridge before you start decorating, and cover it with wet cloths to keep it all look fresh and gorgeous until your guests arrive.
TOP TIP!
The great thing about using fresh carrots is they are a gorgeous and healthy edible gift to give friends and family when they leave. By having some extra orange paper to wrap up your bunches, make them into a little bouquet tied it all up with wool and carrot decoration. No one leaves empty-handed!
I am a true believer in the sun being a healer for all of us - that stepping outside, breathing in fresh air and time spent exploring nature can only make us feel better. After spending so long indoors, this Easter is the perfect time to celebrate life, love and family outside in the sun. I wish you and your family a safe and Happy Easter, I hope you have time to relax and enjoy these next few days, making memories and celebrating life with those who mean the most.
